CBC.CA is reporting that the owners of a fish plant, which was destroyed by a fire on Wednesday June 20, in Salvage, have promised to rebuild.
This is good news to the near 100 people that worked there as well as the 240 whom live in the town.
The fire, which totally destroyed the building, threatens the very existence of the town due to it being the only major source of employment. Even with the promise to rebuild, the community will have to deal with a summer season with very little work.
Firefighters worked to put out the blaze for hours with the help of a water bomber and services from 6 other communities.
One firefighter suffered from smoke inhalation but there were no other injuries due to the fire. The wind spared surrounding homes from the fires blaze.
The fish plant is owned by P. Jane’s and Sons Ltd. And was opened in 1964. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
