Free Newfoundland! (November 30, 2001) The results are in, and 53 per cent of eBerg readers said Newfoundland would be best served if it were an independent country. The movement to liberate the Rock from the bounds of Confederation appears to be alive and well. Surprisingly, 42 per cent said Newfoundland would be better off as an American state. We can only speculate that the main reason for this is to support a stronger Olympic contingent. A meager 5 per cent said Newfoundland made the right choice to join Canada.
